EDUCATION
Students in Minnetonka are served by three separate school districts: Hopkins School District No. 270, Minnetonka School District No. 276, and Wayzata School District No. 284. For those interested in attending private school, Accell Academy, Immaculate Heart of Mary, and Minnetonka Christian Academy are located in town. For post-secondary education, the University of Minnesota, Dunwoody College of Technology and several community and technical schools are located just minutes away in Minneapolis.
ATTRACTIONS & POINTS OF INTEREST
The Charles H. Burwell Historic Site is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and is a designated Minnetonka Landmark. The site includes a mill worker’s cottage, Mr. Burwell’s Mill Office, a woodshed and an icehouse. Tours are offered and the site also hosts several annual community events. An Ice Cream Social is held on the last day of June, Heritage Day takes place at the end of September, and December brings a Holiday Open House. Each event offers free tours of the house, along with entertainment, refreshments and more.
There are plenty of things to do in Minnetonka other than visiting the Burwell house. The Civic Center Park hosts the annual Minnetonka Summer Festival and is available to serve the needs of the community. The park is also home to a community center, city hall, a fire station and two ice arenas. Libbs Lake Beach is connected by channel to Minnehaha Creek and provides beach amenities. Quiet, peaceful Linner Park preserves the area’s natural wetlands and contains many natural features specific to the area. Meadow Park encompasses 100 acres and offers a playground, hockey rinks, tennis courts and more.
